Amish children were leaving the yard and walking toward a nearby barn the day I came upon this scene. Natural flowers and the brightness of the day visually framed the building. My thoughts were to express the appreciation to God that this humble home's residents must feel surrounded by his light and nature. I learned later that it served as a schoolhouse, but the sentiment is still valid for them. I also was drawn to all the varied textures of the building and nature.

Autumn bursts into colors as the curve leads into the scene left by farming to the rolling hills and natural flowers. The vibrant red, orange, and yellow hues create a stunning contrast against the lush green of the pasture.

I look for the spectacular in the simple things. One doesn’t need substantial ocean waves to experience the light and color effects on moving water as it rushes up on shore.

There is so much to see in a nature scene that we usually miss some of its hidden treasures even as its inhabitants are well aware of our presence.

Nature gives us wondrous color patterns and texture. The warm light of early autumn dances in the sky and illuminates even the branches of this weathered old tree.

I can’t imagine a more awesome subject to inspire the use of color and light than an autumn landscape.

I passed this curious scene and just snapped a picture to show my wife. The bright green of the still unidentified foliage puzzled me as it was late autumn and most of the leaves on the trees had turned brown and already fallen. The freshness of this first snowfall only added to that mystery. Within a day or two the green gave way to all browns.

A nature center is a beautiful place to feel tranquility. The birds, butterflies, flowers, and plants help soothe the spirit.

The repeated patterns of the clouds broken by the water's surface and the contrasting colors were fantastic. This small bay, with its fishing camps and boats, reminds us of our place at the nearby lake.

A bright sky is always behind a dark, stormy one.

It was a Sunny day in Salisbury Center, NY, as we rested under a tree in the park next to the last covered bridge in Herkimer County. The sounds of the moving water on the rocks, the birds singing, and the soft, warm breeze were soothing. This tranquil setting inspired this painting, inviting contemplation on the beauty and serenity of nature.

This seasonably warm late winter day revealed an outlet from a still-frozen Adirondack lake, giving hope that spring is near.

On our way to another fishing spot around the bend we switched to a quiet trolling motor so we would not disturb the peaceful scene and more importantly the rightful residents.

We almost did not climb as the visibility was poor, but when we made it to the Summit, the sky soon cleared, but not before I captured this scene. On our way up, we also passed a wedding party and its bride, in her long white dress and heels, as they made their way down the rocky path from the summit.

An overcast sky along this Adirondack foothills river helped capture a peaceful mood.

The Adirondacks have fantastic geographic subjects. The variety of textures and colors is endless.

I love how water washes over the shoreline rocks to reveal all the beautiful colors.

Creation depends on imagination. We are influenced by our experiences and our reality but that imagination pushes the boundaries to something new that might only exist in our minds.

On a walk past a neighbor late one day, I noticed the clouds seeming to roll under the much higher cloud formations. The sky was very bright, but not bright enough without the sun to illuminate the pasture where the sheep were grazing.

One gets quite a view of sunsets and cloud formations while in a boat on a lake. There is always more time in the day, as we want to soak up every second. Besides, the fish were still biting!
